Small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) in Tokyo are eligible for up to ¥250,000 in subsidies to train their foreign employees in business Japanese. Cotonoba provides eligible courses.

What is the subsidy?

Tokyo Metropolitan Government provides financial support of up to ¥250,000 for business Japanese training programs for foreign employees in SMEs.

Fee

The training fee is subsidized by up to ¥250,000(50%).
The fee covers instructor fees, transportation costs, and materials for up to 5 participants (inclusive of tax).

Eligible for Tokyo Metropolitan Government Subsidies

Our training programs are designed to meet the criteria of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s SME Foreign Employee Training Support Grant. This enables your company to take full advantage of the subsidy and receive up to a 50% reimbursement.

Transparent Pricing

We provide two comprehensive training programs: a 50-hour course and a 30-hour course. Each program has a clearly defined fee structure. To further enhance the value of our services, we offer customized training solutions to meet your company’s unique requirements.

  • 50-hour course: Standard fee ¥500,000 ➡ Government subsidy ¥250,000 = Net cost ¥250,000
  • 30-hour course: Standard fee ¥300,000 ➡ Government subsidy ¥150,000 = Net cost ¥150,000

  • Instructor’s remuneration
  • Instructor’s travel expenses (for full-day training sessions)
  • Training materials (textbooks for 5 participants)

Additional Costs:

  • Additional training materials (textbooks for 6th participant and beyond)
  • Venue rental fee
  • Accommodation expenses (if applicable)
  • Travel expenses for remote locations requiring air or sea travel
  • Travel expenses for partial-day training sessions

Eligibility for Subsidies

Eligible Foreign Nationals

  • Applicants must be directly employed by the company.
  • Eligible visa statuses include:
    • Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services (技術・人文知識・国際業務)
    • Skilled Labor (技能)
    • Technical Intern Training (技能実習)
    • Specified Skilled Worker (特定技能)
    • A part of Specified Skilled Worker (特定活動) (Please contact us for details).
  • The place of employment must be located within Tokyo. However, we may be able to accommodate employees working outside of Tokyo. Please inquire for more information.
  • There are no specific limitations regarding the number of participants or length of employment.
  • The primary target is individuals with a Japanese language proficiency level of N2 or below. However, we may also consider participants with N1-level proficiency.. Please contact us for details.

Training Program

  1. Japanese language instruction: Provided by qualified Japanese language instructors, with a focus on business communication skills.
  2. Development of Japanese language teaching materials: Created exclusively by certified Japanese language teachers.
  3. Business etiquette workshops: Covering essential business manners and protocols.
  4. Cross-cultural awareness seminars: Designed to enhance intercultural understanding.

Please note: Courses 3 and 4 must be offered in conjunction with either course 1 or 2.

Reimbursable Expenses

  • Instructor fees: Compensation for Japanese language instructors.
  • Consumables costs: Expenses for textbooks and other materials.
  • Travel costs: Travel expenses incurred by Japanese language instructors.
  • Printing and binding expenses: Costs associated with printing and binding.
  • Contractual service fees: Fees for outsourced services.
  • Rental and usage fees: Costs for rented facilities.

Qualified Japanese Language Instructor

Must meet the qualifications for “instructor” as defined in Article 1, Paragraph 13 of the “Notification Standards for Japanese Language Education Institutions” issued by the Immigration Bureau. Our instructors at “Cotonoba” fully meet these qualifications.

Application Period

The application period ends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The deadline for completing the training program is March 31, 2025.
